Sustainability in Practice
Since opening our doors in 1997, sustainability has been at the heart of everything we do. Working in Edison—surrounded by forests, shorelines, and farmland—has grounded our commitment to protecting the environment that inspires our craft. As we’ve grown, so has our pursuit of smarter, more responsible ways of working. Today, that commitment shows up in every step of our process—from the materials we choose to the way we build. Here’s how we put our values into practice:
FSC Certified Wood
Using FSC-certified wood is a commitment to responsible forestry and environmental stewardship. The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) ensures that wood products come from forests managed to protect biodiversity, water quality, and the rights of workers and communities. Choosing FSC-certified materials supports sustainable practices and helps reduce deforestation. It also contributes to a healthier supply chain—one that values transparency, ethical sourcing, and the well-being of those who harvest and work with the wood.
Low VOC Finishes
Waterborne polyurethane finishes are an environmentally conscious choice with significantly lower VOCs—volatile organic compounds—than traditional solvent-based options. VOCs are chemicals that evaporate into the air and can affect both indoor air quality and human health. Using a low-VOC finish not only reduces environmental impact but also creates a safer, healthier workspace for the craftspeople applying it. It’s a durable, high-performance finish that supports both sustainability and well-being.
Low Waste Practices
As a company, we are committed to minimizing waste through thoughtful design and efficient manufacturing. By combining years of experience with advanced CNC technology, we’re able to optimize every sheet of material—maximizing yield and reducing offcuts. Our expertise allows us to plan precisely, build with intention, and ensure that nothing goes to waste unnecessarily.
Solar Power
We installed rooftop solar panels in 2016 as part of our commitment to clean, renewable energy. Nearly a decade later, they continue to power a significant portion of our shop, reducing our reliance on fossil fuels and lowering our carbon footprint. Solar remains a vital part of how we align our daily operations with our environmental values—one project, and one panel, at a time.
Responsible Waste Disposal
We take great care in how we handle the waste we do generate—from wood scraps to finishing materials. Offcuts that can’t be reused are responsibly recycled, and finishing byproducts are disposed of according to strict environmental standards to ensure minimal impact. At every step, we aim to reduce, reuse, and dispose responsibly.
