Edison, Washington, founded in 1869 in the fertile Skagit Valley, began as a small farming and logging community built on reclaimed tide flats and named after Thomas Edison. Early growth was driven by agriculture, fishing, and local trade, with a post office established in 1876 to serve the developing town. Although regional railroads shifted commerce away, Edison preserved its rural character and historical roots. Today, it’s known as a vibrant destination for art, local food, and small businesses, blending its rich history with a thriving creative community in Skagit County.
